Aprilaire 600 Humidifier Installed by our client 2003

Early this winter I purchased an Aprilaire Humidifier from Sheridan HVAC after checking many types of humidifiers and vendors on the Web.  The price was excellent and the installation information was very complete on their web site and I felt comfortable with the purchase.
 
I am 69 years old and my wife and I bought an 1800 sq ft condominium two years ago.  For the first year we used a floor model humidifier but the daily process of filling with water, poor performance and general inconvenience prompted me to search for a more automatic process.  I am quite handy with tools and have more than an adequate tool compliment.
 
The unit arrived within several days of ordering.  Everything was in order so I immediately laid out the opening cuts.  Within a day I was prepared to install the outside sensor, the humidifier body and return and the water supply.  Because of the spacing between supply and return vents, I purchased an adjustable 6" elbow which, with just a bit of trimming, fit the job perfectly.  When the humidistat was installed and the fan relay installed the unit was fired up .... and worked perfectly.
 
Within a day the household humidity had jumped nearly 20%.  It has held between 32% and 40% all through a particularly cold winter here in the Northeast.
 
I am very pleased with the product and although I did not need any support from Sheridan, I am sure it would be available if needed.  I now understand why you say that this model is your most popular seller.

I was cleaning the filter on our Trane XV 80 today and I was thinking about how great our furnace is. We bought from and had it installed, last February,  by Sheridan Mechanical. 92% (2) stage heat / variable speed furnace with a 13 S.E.E.R. air conditioner and an Aprilaire 600 Humidifier Installation.

“We sourced Sheridan Mechanical Services as one of 5 firms. They were the only firm to have, via their web site, a detailed questionnaire about our home. It covered everything from insulation in the roof, down to the serial numbers of our present furnace and internal/external A/C. Every vendor, other than Sheridan Mechanical used a “rule of thumb” or “square footage” estimate and immediately accepted the “status quo” size of the present furnace and the A/C as the “norm.” They recommended a “system” and priced from that start point. I had done a computerized Residential Heat Loss/Gain calculation before soliciting bids. Without this prior knowledge, Sheridan Mechanical, after extensive examination of the property and questions about our needs and lifestyle recommended a system lower in capacity than the present system and exactly in line with the ACCA Manual J calculations. The other vendors gave me a “oh yeah” when I questioned their results and recommendations. Sheridan Mechanical listened to our needs, respected my research and provided us with a system that was better than we planned for and at a price lower than the lesser efficiency rated furnace and A/C’s recommended by their competition.  As to the installation: we had special time constraints due to travel needs. Sheridan Mechanical made arrangements around our schedules, worked late into the install days to make sure the job was completed on time. They briefed us on every step of the install. They work exceedingly neat and respect your home and property. We have no hesitation in recommending them. They are fair, straight forward and sell you a system based on your true needs.”

NOTE: What this client just found out is that we have done so many heat/cool loss and gain calculations over the years that we are able to size equipment much better than most companies who only send salesmen out to give "estimates". This resulted in this client getting a smaller and therefore a cheaper installation up front as well as a cheaper operating system year after year!

92% Trane Variable Speed (2) Stage heat furnace installation:

 

Sheridan Mechanical Services were professional and clean in the installation of my XV90 92% Trane furnace.  Compared to other new furnaces my friends have purchased the Trane seems quieter in operation. The variable speed blower seems to reduce the amount of "cold drafts" when the furnace starts up making my home more comfortable. Because of the efficiency of the furnace I was able to drop the BTU rating of my furnace from the old one (137K) down to 80K.  This is now saving about 40% on my gas bill. Sheridan's pricing was considerably lower than other furnace retailers. (ie. Sears, etc.)  I recommend Sheridan Mechanical for good service, friendliness, products and pricing.

a champ... my only problem now is daring to go outside on those

Trane XL1800 System 

"Like many consumers, I was totally in the dark when it came to heating and air conditioning systems.  When I finally stumbled onto the Sheridan site, I found the answers to many of my questions were there. 


Sheridan helped me to determine the best equipment and configuration for my application.  I found them to be friendly and helpful, even though I was not located in their normal sales area.  They issued me a quotation for the equipment and offered to sell directly to me if I could not find a suitable deal in my local area.  Armed with the knowledge given to me by the Sheridan team, I had a much better understanding of the whole process and was able to separate the sales hype from reality. 
 
In the end, I settled for a Trane XL-1800 system which I believe is the best on the market.  Without Sheridan, I may have never reached this conclusion and would have most likely ended up with an inferior system at a higher price."

I am building a new house so I have been researching Gas Furnaces and
trying to educate myself about them.  I have heard Trane is a good
product as well as a couple others.  I have found more information at
your website concerning the Trane models than the Trane Website seems to

Frozen Compressor

Cold bedrooms near San Diego, CA.

Thanks for your help in trying to find out why I was not getting the proper air flow to the rear of my Ranch Style Home in Southern California with my existing heat and air conditioning system. The problem I have is a long run of approx. 68 feet which resulted in very little heat or air to the bedrooms at the rear of my home. After installing a inline booster fan I contacted your firm and had the pleasure of talking with the owner , via e mail , I was informed that my 2 speed blower motor was not strong enough to push the air in adequate quantity to cool or heat the rear rooms and I was informed that I needed a furnace with a variable speed blower motor to do the job correctly. I was given model numbers and "stats" on various furnaces that could correct my problem and save me fuel cost at the same time.

Rarely do you find a company to go out of their way for a party living in an area out of their service zone. Other companies would have dropped me like a hot potato knowing there was no financial gain for them.

My hat is off to your firm.

Pilot lights are out.


"The pilot light on my gas furnace has gone out. The furnace was working several weeks ago as was my hot water heater. Both pilots have gone out. I called the gas company, but since I still have gas at my stove, they said that their responsibility stops at the meter. I am a single mom with 3 kids and can't afford to replace them and the service calls start at $100.00. I can not afford this at this time either being so close after Christmas. It really is cold though. I have tried to light the pilots as you described in your article, but the pilots won't even light at all. I would really appreciate any information you could give me on troubleshooting."

Blinking Lights.

"My heat pump has my lights blinking every time it cycles. The coil would not pull in so I manually press it in and the contacts arch a little, then I ran it in auto and it works ok but has my lights are blinking when it cycles."

Intermittent Heat Pump Problem.

I don't live in your area but I did find your web site helpful. My problem is
that my heat pump (while in cooling mode) will be working fine and then it
will start to blow warmer air out. After turning the unit off for awhile, it
will start to work fine again. The coils are not freezing up and have been
cleaned recently by a certified technician. So what's the problem? Thanks for
your time and trouble.

Thank you for your reply. It doesn't do it except on extremely hot days. It will run fine for days and then act up when it's really hot outside. The last time the Tech came out he cleaned the coils and checked the Freon but said the freon was okay. Thank you for your time and advice.

Bad Heat Exchanger

Thank you for this web site !!!! I live in Ohio and was told I needed a new heat exchanger on my furnace. Most companies assume because you are a disabled female you won't understand the problem. Thank you so much for the photos; I now have a better understanding. I had a new motor installed two years ago.Can I just have a new heat exchanger installed? I try to keep my furnace clean, vacuuming the inside around the blower, etc for dust and also the cold air vent and floor vents, and keep the filters changed. Thank you again for the information.
