APRILAIRE FURNACE HUMIDIFIERS FOR DENVER, COLORADO.

Best humidifier?  A  humidifier will get rid of static electricity which causes shocks when you walk on your carpeting and then touch anything metal. It will also help cut down on sinus problems and sickness due to allergies depending on which type of unit you purchase. An added benefit is they can actually lower your heating bill since by putting moisture in the air will make you feel more comfortable at a lower thermostat setting! And then there is the fact that your furniture will like the added moisture. Homes today being tightly constructed never get enough air from outdoors ( called infiltration ) are literally as dry as the desert during the winter. This is because the same air is heated over and over again without adding any fresh outdoor air. As a note to the question we are often asked - no we don't recommend putting any humidifier in an attic or 2nd floor installation due to the possibility of a water leak and damage to the home. If your home is big enough to require more than one humidifier we can usually install multiple units on the basement furnace.

There are ( 4 ) basic types of humidifiers. They are mounted on the return or supply plenum and some require ductwork to be run from the humidifier to the other plenum, (these are called by-pass humidifiers) others have no duct work to install. There are also powered humidifiers that have a small fan enclosed within the humidifier that don't require any ductwork ( These units require 120 volts available to them ) and don't work as well as by pass type in our opinion.

  • Spray nozzle type.

  • By pass Drum type.

  • By pass Evaporative pad type.

  • Steam type.

Spray Nozzle Type:
These are the cheapest type when purchased. They consist of a small box which is mounted on your ductwork and incorporates a spray nozzle which is inside your ductwork. There is no added ductwork to install but they don't put out as much humidity as the larger units. If you are looking for the cheapest humidifier or the easiest for you to install yourself, these are your best bet. We will install these humidifiers if that's what is desired but don't recommend them.

Drum Type:
These units have a foam pad on a drum turning in a pan of water which is kept full by means of a float. The foam pad and pan need to be cleaned with Clorox bleach several times during the heating season. Most clients that have this type complain to us about the excessive maintenance required or the resulting nasty algae or mineral deposits. They are more expensive than the spray type but cheaper than the next one we will discuss.

Evaporative Pad Type:
These humidifiers have a vertically mounted evaporative pad with a water solenoid mounted above the pad. When there is a call  for more humidity from the duct mounted humidistat control, a stream of water runs down the pad, and as the water evaporates, humidity is added to the building. At the bottom of the unit there is a drain line which is connected to a floor drain or a condensate pump. The drain can be simply a 5/8" I.D. poly tube or a drain constructed of 3/4" P.V.C. We always use the P.V.C. method as it looks more professional and it is far less likely to cause a water leak due to a kink in the poly tubing. This draining with each cycle keeps the pad from getting nasty to begin with. They are suitable for about a 2,500 square foot area, although the manufacturer claims are for up to 4,000 square feet. These are the units we prefer to install. The pad should be changed yearly according to the manufacturer. We have seen units with pads several years old that still look good however. This being the only maintenance needed. Of course it is a good idea to check to see your unit is working and no water leaks have developed over the summer months before using it in the winter months.

Steam Type:
These units are very expensive and are usually only installed in very large buildings! We can install these units if necessary. People with pianos sometimes request these units which cost over $ 1,000.00.

An Aprilaire 600 Humidifier pictured below. Note: the drain line at the bottom of the humidifier - which we have run in 3/4" P.V.C. we could have used a 5/8" poly tubing but it looks unprofessional and using poly tubing leads to kinks and leaks! We use copper tubing to connect to the house water lines. Most of our competitors use the plastic tubing that comes with the humidifier. We use copper because it lasts MUCH longer! These extras are why our installation costs may be somewhat higher than our competitors, but you get what you pay for! Also notice the 6" elbows and related 6" duct work that needs to be run from the humidifier to the supply air trunk. This duct work will require sheet metal cutting tools.

Limited Time Sale in progress if you order one to install yourself! Follow the links at the bottom of page to Internet Specials.

Model 600

The Aprilaire Automatic Humidifier Model 600 is the newest addition to the line. It takes humidifier innovation to the next level and performs as good as it looks! It offers all of the performance benefits of our other technologically-advanced computer-equipped automatic humidifiers and it’s easier than ever to have installed because it includes a built-in bypass damper, which means fewer parts to install. Plus, the damper is conveniently labeled for summer and winter settings, allowing you to set it for the entire season with no guesswork involved. Just set it and let your humidifier run automatically and it will deliver up to 50% more humidity, compared to other competitive units on the market. It also can be installed in manual mode if needed. The Model 600 has an evaporative capacity of 0.70 gallons per hour and is ideal for a home with up to 4,000 square feet if it’s tightly constructed. We believe it’s the best performing bypass humidifier on the market!

All our Humidifier installation work is warranted for ( 1 ) year!
